Un-(Raveling) Power Structures—Strategies Against Racism in German Adult Education

We are inviting all staff, students, faculty, and alumni to a special Lunch & Learn event on November 14th, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM EDT in the OISE Building, 7th Floor Peace Lounge.

This event will feature Jennifer Danquah, a PhD scholar from the Professorship of Adult and Continuing Education at the University of Würzburg, Germany. In her presentation, “Un-(Raveling) Power Structures: Strategies Against Racism in German Adult Education Organizations,” Jennifer will provide a comprehensive overview of the German adult education system. Focusing on the Volkshochschule (Adult Education Center), she will explore the entanglements between state-funded organizations and power dynamics that contribute to racial discrimination. The talk will highlight her research on how strategies against racism are being developed and implemented in these organizations, offering critical insights into fostering more equitable learning environments in adult education.

Jennifer’s work aligns with her broader academic interests in designing and promoting justice-oriented educational spaces, particularly within adult education frameworks.

Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
This event is open to all members of the University of Toronto community.
