What is the Academic Skills Hub?
The Academic Skills Hub (ASH) is a virtual library designed to enhance your academic skills.
In ASH you’ll find Resource Pages about academic writing and reading, academic English, communication skills, and learning strategies. Dive into areas like academic article reading, literature reviews, reflective writing, citations, paragraph construction, integrating research into your work, and much more*.
Our goal is to make broad and complex topics easy and quick to grasp, so each Resource Page features
a specific, easily digestible topic or subtopic
plain language
multiple media (text, diagrams and images, videos, interactive activities, practical examples and student samples)
Explore our extensive collection and enhance your skills to achieve your academic goals with confidence!
* Note: the content, level of complexity, and examples you’ll find in ASH have been selected and designed to support graduate students enrolled in professional Master’s programs in the social sciences’ field.
How to Use the Academic Skills Hub?
Using the Academic Skills Hub (ASH) is an easy, two-step process!
Step 1
To find your topic of interest, use the filters on the left side of the Search page. You have three search options:
Skills Category filter (i.e., broad areas like Academic Writing)
Skills Keywords filter (i.e., narrower topics like Literature Reviews)
Custom Search (i.e., a search box where you can type specific words)
Once you apply your filters, the relevant results cards will appear on the right side.
Step 2
Click on a card title to explore the Resource Page and its topic.
Each resource page starts with a table of contents that shows you the topics on the page, and a section called "This resource page will help you..." that shows what you can expect to learn from that page.
Every resource page also ends with links to related Resource Pages on ASH, additional external resources, and on-campus services.
