Excerpt: "Starting Strong III (OECD) confirms what those working in the early learning and child care (ELCC) field have long known: “well-educated, well-trained professionals are the key factor in providing high-quality early childhood education and care.” Yet despite the importance of the role and its connection to quality, there is no consensus in Canada on what educational standards constitutes a “well-educated and well-trained professional” and who may use the professional title “early childhood educator” (ECE)."

Excerpt: "The Ontario government is investing $15.3 million in more than 100 organizations that provide fun, safe and supervised activities for children and youth across the province through inclusive team sports and active recreation programs. "Our government is proud to support opportunities for children and youth throughout Ontario to lead active and healthy lifestyles,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Sport. “This funding will expand access to vital resources and enable partner organizations to continue delivering high-quality, tailored active recreation programming that aligns with the needs of local communities.”"

The Cost-Benefits of Public Child Care
University of Toronto economics professor Beth Dhuey and Atkinson Senior Policy Fellows Kerry McCuaig and Dr. Emis Akbari. Ontario is requiring regions to justify their directly operated childcare facilities. Divesting public programs has eliminated good jobs for education, removed a standard for community programs, and reduced access to vulnerable users, particularly children with disabilities and infants. Research documents that the value of public childcare extends beyond the dollars spent.
